A Little Personal Side of Personalization

RichReaders,

Today, we’re starting a less-businessy side of the {rr} blog. Some of my friends and mentors are able to blend the blogs of business and personal together (e.g., Glenn Kelman over at Redfin!)–it seems silly that {rr} as the leading personalization company isn’t already making its blog a little more personal.

Today’s post is just a little thank you. A thank you to the guys who founded Skype, the people at Google who copied it to create Google voice/video, and the folks at GoGo In-Flight internet who have upgraded their network so that it’s now powerful enough to enable meaningful vid-chats–from an airplane.

Like many entrepreneurs, I spend quite a bit of time in the air and traveling generally. I fly around 150k miles a year and spend more time with flight attendants than with my family!

The ability to reach across continents (from our offices in London) or across thousands of nautical miles and 35,000 ft of Skype_6.14.47altitude makes my travel amazingly more bearable. Certainly it’s not as good as hanging out face-to-face with my daughter (Abigail–isn’t she cute) in our back yard while she screams “My Turn” or “Chocolate Milk,” but when I’ve got to be on the road, it’s a billion times better than just a phone call.

So, thanks.

And I can’t wait to see what’s next!

David

P.S. The cucumber Abigail has in her hands is some sort of a “Pickle Cucumber” that we planted this summer. Apparently they grow *even bigger* than the 15 pound one in the pic.
